The Story

A vet who got tired of petroleum based products

Dr. Miranda Davis · Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University

Red Earth Paws was created by Dr. Miranda Davis, who earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Perth — one of Australia's leading veterinary schools.

Years of clinical work in Western Australia meant treating the same problem over and over: cracked, burned, and split paw pads from red dirt, hot pavement, and rough scrub. The balms owners brought in were almost always petroleum-based — effective in the short term, but not what a vet wants to send home with a patient.

So she formulated something better, built around Australian lanolin — the same ingredient sheep farmers have used for generations to heal their own cracked hands. Tested across red dirt tracks, beach walks, and city sidewalks. Built for paws that actually go places.

Australian Lanolin

The foundation of the formula. Sourced from Australian wool, this natural wax forms a breathable moisture barrier while actively conditioning the skin. Sheep farmers have used it for generations to heal cracked hands.

Beeswax

Provides structure and a light, water-resistant seal that holds up on trails and pavement.

Macadamia Oil

A lightweight Australian oil rich in palmitoleic acid — easily absorbed and excellent for softening dry skin.

Jojoba Oil

Structurally similar to the skin's natural sebum, it sinks in quickly without leaving a greasy residue.

Shea Butter

Deep conditioning and rich in vitamins A and E — the ingredient that gives the balm its creamy, spreadable texture.

Vitamin E

A natural antioxidant that supports skin repair and helps keep the formula stable without synthetic preservatives.

How to use it.

A small amount goes a long way. Use before walks for protection or after walks for recovery — same balm, both jobs.

Apply to clean paws

Start with paws that are dry and free of dirt or sand. A pea-sized amount per paw is plenty — the balm spreads further than you'd think. If paws are dirty or sandy, wipe with a damp cloth first — debris between the pads can scratch when you massage.

Massage in gently

Work the balm into each pad with your fingers for about 10 seconds. It absorbs in seconds and leaves no greasy residue — your dog can hit the floors, the grass, or the trail right after. Pay extra attention to the spaces between the pads — that's where cracks usually start.

Walk with confidence

Apply before walks to protect against hot pavement, salt, sand, or rough trails. Apply after walks for recovery from a long day on the pads. Same balm, both jobs. On extreme days (90°F+ pavement or salted sidewalks), reapply mid-walk if you're out longer than 30 minutes.

Pro Tip: For senior dogs, puppies with delicate pads, or any dog new to outdoor activity, apply two to three times during the first week to build up protection. For dogs recovering from cracked pads, apply nightly before bed for a week.

What owners are saying

Trusted by dogs who go everywhere.

"
My kelpie's pads were splitting every summer on the hot pavement. Two weeks of this balm and they were back to normal. I keep a tin by the door now.

"
I'd tried three other balms before this one. The lanolin makes a real difference — it actually absorbs instead of just sitting on top.

Recommended to my clients regularly. Clean ingredient list, no petroleum, and it does what it says on the tin.
